Network

The flags and environment variables that set these are in the CLI reference. A server shared with other people is set up in Run a Shared Server.

PortProtocolUseSet with
5555TCP, WebSocket (ws://, no TLS)Clients: VSCode, terminal views--server-port; VSCode: resonon.server.port
5556UDP multicast, group 239.255.82.78Discovery beaconFixed

The server binds 0.0.0.0 — every interface — unless --server-host names one address, such as 127.0.0.1 for this machine only. When it is ready it prints:

[server] Listening on 0.0.0.0:5555

The language server opens no port; it talks to VSCode over stdio.

FactValue
SentOnce a second, on the loopback interface: only views and editors on the same machine receive it
ContentJSON: service ("resonon"), ws_port, name, password_required
name--server-name, or the machine’s host name
ListenersThe terminal views’ connect screen and VSCode’s Servers view, on loopback and the default interface
Removed from the list6 s after the last beacon in a terminal view; 4 s in VSCode, for a server not connected

A server that discovery does not reach is added by address: Add Server… in VSCode, the address field of the connect screen, or --host and --port.

FactValue
Set with--password, or RESONON_SERVER_PASSWORD, which wins over the flag
Without oneEvery client that connects is accepted
Wrong or missingThe client is told Invalid password and disconnected
SentIn clear text, as the first message after connecting

The server pings every client every 30 seconds. VSCode tries to reconnect 3 times after the connection drops; a terminal view returns to its connect screen.
